A message from CEO Tim Kilroe on the New Managing Director Appointment for Bethell Construction Ltd

I am pleased to confirm the appointment of Michael Holmes as Managing Director of Bethell Construction Ltd after joining the company 12 months ago as Manager Director Designate. He will take up his new position with effect from 1^st October 2021.

The transitional arrangements with Vinny O’Dowd have gone well and during the past year Michael has been focussing on strengthening the senior management, improving site-based disciplines, particularly cost control, and commencing a new era of digitisation for contract processes. Although the building blocks for these are not yet complete, they are well on the way to support the next stage of our growth plans.  In this regard, I can also announce that Michael and I have decided that, whilst continuing to focus on securing large framework opportunities, we are doubling the maximum tender value for larger capital one-off schemes to £10m depending on scheme complexities and delivery constraints.  Our Construction business will also be working closely with our Utilities business on larger industrial and commercial opportunities requiring an integrated approach for underground infrastructure works (such as multi-utility installations and green energy initiatives).

I am also delighted that Vinny O’Dowd’s extensive experience and expertise is going to remain in the business as he has agreed to continue as a director in his new role concentrating on estimating and business development.  Vinny will be based at our Manchester Airport office from 1^st January 2022.

Finally, I would again like to go on record thanking Vinny O’Dowd for all his achievements, hard work and unquestionable dedication whilst at the helm over the past eleven years and to formally wish Michael Holmes every success in taking over as Managing Director.
