Chinatown is the vibrant heart of the Chinese community in Manchester and one of Chinatown’s most noticeable landmarks is the Chinese Archway. Bethell were successful in being awarded the contract by Manchester City Council to carry out extensive restoration works to the exposed elements.
Bethell assembled a team of masons, roof tilers, joiners and decorative sign writers to use a high degree of skill to ensure the restoration was sympathetic with the original workmanship. The whole roof had to be stripped off and damaged tiles replaced with exact replicas which traveled all the way from China!
Works were completed on time, within budget and with minimal disruption to the busy city centre location.
