Cheethams School of Music, Manchester

General Enabling works in advance of construction of the new 7 storey music school and 350 seat concert hall.

The enabling works project entailed the following work scope:

• Provision of secure hoarding around the site boundary to last for the three year development period.
• Installation of retaining structures involving permanent sheet piling and soil nails to parts of the site boundary.
• General bulk excavation for basement and disposal off site of 8,000m³ of excavated material, including stockpiling for reuse of 3,000m³ of suitable recycled material.
• Disconnection, removal and diversion of existing services within the site.

The works involved detailed planning and close liaison with Network Rail as the site is adjacent to Victoria Station with part of the works having an interface with existing Network Rail structures.
