LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort

RAW Charging is the leading CPO and supplier of electric vehicle charging infrastructure to the hospitality, leisure and retail sectors. In 2023, RAW announced they were awarded an exclusive partnership with Merlin Entertainments to install and operate charge points across some of the UK’s top attractions.

As a result of the success of our ongoing relationship with RAW, Bethell has been nominated to deliver EV chargers across several of Merlin’s sites.

Executive Summary: In 2022, LEGOLAND® had over 2.4 million visitors with the majority driving to the resort as a family, with many visitors now seeking convenient and reliable EV charging during their stay. Bethell Utility Services was contracted by RAW Charging to install 38 charging bays across the resort, including the entrance, guest hotel and staff car parks.

Scope of Works: Across the three car parks in use at the site, the scope of works required included:

Legoland Adventure Golf Car Park

Acting as Principal Contractor and Principal Designer for this site, Bethell delivered:

  • 125m of 120mm 5-core SWA sub-main from existing LV panel to new free-standing Kane EV DB routed through existing ducting across new car park development.
  • 12 no. of 22kW AC EV charging outlets installed to concrete plinth, within raised grass area.
  • 12 no. of EV charging plinths constructed to raised kerb line complete with protective bollards.
  • 270m of 5C 10mm installed through new ducting network from EV feeder pillar to EV charging equipment.
  • Termination of all cables, test, and commission of all units.
  • 24 no. of parking bays lined and branded, inclusive of 2 no. of new DDA priority use bays.

Legoland Hotel Car Park

  • 150m sub-main from existing LV switch room to new feeder pillar.
  • Full excavation, ducting and reinstatement of route.
  • New feeder pillar complete with EV distribution board.
  • 5 no. EV charging plinths complete with protective bollards.
  • Excavation, ducting and reinstatement of car park area.
  • Wiring, installation, connection, and commission of all EV charging equipment.

Legoland Staff Car Park

  • 75m sub-main from existing LV switch room to new feeder pillar.
  • Partially routed through the maintenance building, full excavation, ducting and reinstatement of route.
  • New feeder pillar complete with EV distribution board.
  • 2 no. of EV charging plinths complete with protective bollards.
  • Excavation, ducting and reinstatement of car park area.
  • Wiring, installation, connection, and commission of all EV charging equipment.

Conclusion: This project is one of RAW’s largest installations to date. Other installations at Merlin’s top attractions across the UK completed by Bethell Utility Services on behalf of RAW Charging include Alton Towers Resort and Warwick Castle!
