Bethell ‘s exemplary track record of safe working, timely delivery and high quality workmanship earned them a rare chance to become involved in construction at the highly regulated nuclear environment at Sellafield, the UK’s leading nuclear reprocessing plant.
Bethell were employed to carry out essential enabling works prior to the main £160m Silos Maintenance Facility project commencing on site. Our highly skilled workforce worked to a stringent safety and quality regime and completed the work package within the agreed programme ensuring there was no delay to the main SMF project.
Our work scope involved the following activities:
- installation of both foul and surface drainage including the installation of petrol interceptors and headwalls
- the creation of reinforced concrete hardstandings, and bund walls
- 10,000m2 of stone hardstandings to form material storage areas
- 1,500m2 macadam haul roads
- laying of below ground service ducting and above ground concrete service troughs
- water main installation
- 200m3 reinforced concrete foundations for multi-storey modular buildings and associated footpaths and ramps
