St Helens Town Centre Regeneration

On behalf of Hilson Moran, Bethell was contracted to carry out major electric utility diversionary works as part of the first phase of St Helens' town centre redevelopment, consisting of a new hotel, restaurants, bars and 64 residential apartments.

Bethell Utility Services diverted approximately 1km of existing Scottish Power LV & HV infrastructure to facilitate the disconnection of 5 existing substations.

Bethell also designed, built, and installed a double 11kV 415V 1000kVA substation to serve the existing network, replacing five rooftop substations, which were decommissioned prior to demolition of the shopping centre.

Bethell Construction worked alongside Bethell Utility Services to undertake remediation, concreting and ducting works to facilitate the installation of a new substation as part of the works.

The traffic and pedestrian management had been a major consideration, with works progressing in several agreed phases to minimise disruption.
