"The Rock", Bury

The appointment was on a ‘design and construct basis’ with all initial design responsibility being novated to Bethell.

A substantial section of the project involved the construction of a new link road incorporating a total of 6500m2 of asphalt as well as deep drainage, kerbing, footpath works, street lighting and traffic signal installation.

Other works included the reconstruction and widening of A58 Rochdale Road incorporating over 9000m2 of asphalt. Many complex service diversions were required to relocate underground utility supplies and all this work was initialised and managed by Bethell.

The final phase of the scheme covered widening of Peel way & Angouleme way which included 3700m2 of macadam, new street lighting and signage.

The new highways were successfully handed over to Bury MBC for adoption upon completion of the scheme.
All the works were carried out within Bury Town centre and required extensive traffic management and liaison with a variety of stakeholders. Bethell ensured the project was completed to time and within the Guaranteed Maximum Price budget agreed at the outset.
