Westby Reservoir Roof Refurbishment

The refurbishment of the 3,00m² roof was let through United Utilities’ Asset Maintenance Service (AMS) Framework and involved the project management to coordinate many specialist operations including:

• Overhaul and repair to the corrugated sheet roof including the replacement of over 20,000 fixing rivets and hook bolts
• Concrete repair works to the structure
• Application of new sprayed waterproof coating to roof gutters, perimeter channels and flat roof areas around access hatches
• Replacement of flashings and sealing of gaps around the perimeter with new foam filler blocks
• Repointing of brickwork and repointing of all expansion joints to the reservoir floor and walls
• Refurbishment of existing access ladders and handrails

All works within the covered reservoir were carried out under a highly regulated confined-space policy. Internal works were undertaken to strict levels of hygiene and full cleaning of the reservoir completed before re-introducing new supplies of drinking water.
