Celebrating excellence at the CECA North West Annual Awards Dinner!

CECA’s North West Annual Awards Dinner honours the best in civil engineering in the region and highlights innovation and excellence in the sector.

As one of the leading civil engineering contractors in the North West, we were proud to sponsor the event and celebrate the talented businesses and individuals who make amazing projects happen.

Project of the Year £1m – £5m – Elizabeth Park

To kick off the night’s proceedings, the award for Project of the Year (£1m-£5m) was presented to Bethell and Bolton Council for the delivery of Elizabeth Park, the town’s first park in over 100 years!

In tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II, Elizabeth Park is a key asset in Bolton Council’s ambitious plans to create a quality and attractive public realm within the town centre. In collaboration with Bolton Council, Bethell delivered all required enabling works for the park, transforming the site of the former Odeon cinema into a welcoming and vibrant green space. During the construction of Elizabeth Park, Bethell invited local schoolchildren to plant bulbs and learn about the biodiversity that the park will create for wildlife and visitors to enjoy.

Young Professional of the Year – Conor Barton

Afterwards, Bethell’s own Conor Barton took home the evening’s Young Professional of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to the business and commitment to personal development!

Conor began his career in the construction industry in 2018, starting as a labourer focused on house refurbishments. In 2019, after joining a small construction firm, he developed a keen interest in construction and the built environment. This motivated Conor to self-fund his part-time HNC in Construction and the Built Environment at the City of Liverpool College. Upon completion of his HNC qualification, Conor progressed to study for his Construction Management degree at Liverpool John Moore’s University, graduating with a 2:1 honour this year!

Since joining Bethell as a Junior Project Manager in 2022, we have supported Conor’s desired career path by providing the opportunity to pursue a degree apprenticeship while gaining vital on-site project management experience. With the support of mentor Alison Owen, Conor is also actively working towards RICS chartership through the Project Management route, aiming to achieve his accreditation by March 2025.
