Recognising exceptional projects and people at the CECA North West Annual Awards Dinner!

The Civil Engineering Contractors Association’s (CECA) Annual Awards Dinner is the industry body’s flagship event of the year, bringing together the best in the civil engineering sector to celebrate those who have gone above and beyond.

As an event sponsor, it’s always a pleasure to attend, and this year’s ceremony was no exception!

WINNER: Social Value – T Level Programme

Entering its fourth year of operations, Bethell’s T Level programme was recognised with the ceremony’s Social Value Award.

Starting with an initial cohort of four students in 2022, our 9-week-long work experience programme offers a varied view of the industry for students, giving them the on-the-job skills and experience to enhance their classroom learning. Many T Level students have since returned to Bethell to continue their career journey, with past graduates now working full-time as quantity surveyors, site engineers and workshop management apprentices!

This demonstrates how an effective T Level programme can open up pathways into construction for young people and upskill the workforce of the future!

HIGHLY COMMENDED: Project of the Year (over £5m) – Bury Aesthetic Screening

Bethell and United Utilities earned a Highly Commended award in the prestigious Project of the Year (over £5m) category for the successful delivery of the £11m Bury Aesthetic Screening scheme at Openshaw Park, Bury.

On behalf of client United Utilities, Bethell installed new screening to prevent unscreened storm spills into the River Roch. This was achieved using Bethell’s in-house Shaft Sinking and Tunnelling team, which was established in 2023 and delivered its first successful tunnel drive and shaft sinking on the project.

As of 2025, the park was reinstated by Bethell and is fully accessible to the public.

HIGHLY COMMENDED: Collaborative Partnership – Highways Skills Training Academy

The evening concluded with another Highly Commended award, presented to Bethell for their creation of a bespoke Highways Skills Training Academy at CitySkills, Salford City College.

The training facility was created in collaboration with Salford City College and the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG), providing a practical training environment for students to develop safe working practices and gain knowledge outside of the classroom.

As a result, we can address our industry’s growing skills gap by equipping students with knowledge and training to meet the future demands of our sector today.
