
Position: CAD Apprentice Reporting to: Design Manager
Job Summary
To provide a professional, customer focused and efficient cad service to the department alongside design administrative support, whilst adhering to time constraints.
Principal accountabilities
SAFETY
• Liaising with developers and site engineers submitting as laid drawings and approved designs once updated.
• Visit sites when arranged by supervisors to gain knowledge of construction processes and take accurate measures.
CUSTOMER
• Submit all as-laids to the clients within 5 days of energisation/ installation.
• Provide an excellent customer experience for all clients.
• Make & receive calls ensuring prompt answers to queries and requests for information from DNO’s / IDNOS and clients.
PEOPLE
• Undertake in-house and external training courses as and when required.
• Update and maintain drawing register every time a drawing is amended/created.
• Update and maintain information white board with unapproved amendments.
• Liaise with the Business Development team at least once a week to ensure the designers can gain approvals within a timely manner and to adhere to agreed time constraints for developer site start dates.
• Liaise with the Finance Department requesting payments for POC acceptances once developer has made their upfront payment and water branch acceptances within 24 hours of receipt.
• Provide cover for other administrative roles during sickness and holidays.
INTEGRITY
• Ensure the CAD is 100% accurate and if amendments are required, they are distributed within a maximum of 2 days.
• Always provide a professional administration service to the division, ensuring correspondence is 100% accurate and distributed in a timely manner.
• Ensure the Work Management System is always kept fully updated.
• Maintaining a healthy relationship with designers/ project managers and admin teams
SUSTAINABLE
• Keep the electronic filing system up to date with latest plans and information
• Provide a computerised version of all designs ready for submission to the client/ DNO within 5 days of receipt from the designer.
• Tracker Management – Design Approval, Agreements, Substation legals, Fire Authority.
• Send local fire authority water designs and request if any hydrants are required. On receipt of a response update WMS and if a hydrant is required email a copy of the request to Commercial and pass a copy to CAD to amend the design
EXCELLENCE
• Liaise with the construction and design team members on a daily basis to ensure accurate information is received and receive updates on priority changes.
• Undertake design administrative duties when a designers work load requires it. (water, gas and electric design approval applications).
• Create and modify documents using Microsoft Office.
• Ensure all connection and adoption agreements are signed and sent within 2 days of receipt. Track there return and submit to the asset owner within 24 hours of receipt.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
• Basic reading, writing and arithmetic
• GCSE grade A – C in Maths and English
• Administrative experience
Skills and knowledge
• A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products / internet and email
• Knowledge of Auto cad would be advantageous
• A good understanding of safe working practices / basic H&S requirements
