Grape Lane

The project scope entailed the design and off line construction of 68m3 of additional storage to the local sewer network, removing an existing unconsented overflow to the adjacent River Yarrow.

The additional storage was provided by installing 50 linear metres of 2.10 metre x 0.75 metre pre-cast concrete box culvert unit with a pre-formed dry weather flow channel. Extensive temporary works were required to form suitable access into the field location and working platforms for the 6.5-ton pre-cast concrete culvert units to be safely lifted into position and installed as required. All construction operations were delivered with directly employed Bethell resource.

Connection works to the existing sewer network within Grape Lane was completed under a planned road closure to coincide with local school closures, minimising disruption to the local area. Local residents and businesses were directly liaised with in advance of the works commencing to inform of potential impact, with alternative delivery routes being agreed for local businesses so that the works did not affect their day-to-day operations. Regular updates were also provided throughout the progress of the works

Works were completed and operational in early December 2023, meeting the client’s requirement to the Environment Agency of having the existing overflow abandoned by 31st December 2023.
