United Utilities Network Maintenance Services Partner 2019 -2025

In January 2019 Bethell were appointed one of United Utilities’ key delivery partners for their 72,000 mile network of sewers throughout the North West of England. As one of three key NMS partners, we have responsibility for maintaining some of the largest diameter pipework infrastructure across the region.

We offer UU a full inspection, design and construction service and our appointment involves the maintenance and construction of key assets such as combined sewer overflows (CSOs), attenuation tanks, large pipework up to 2.4m in diameter, outfall structures, no-dig pipe installation, flood alleviation works and pumping station maintenance.

An important part of our scope includes the connection of new sewer connections for new commercial land residential developments often at busy road junctions. Other work includes CCTV surveys to determine sewer condition, relining works and emergency dig downs to carry out urgent sewer repairs.

At any given time, we have up to 50 operational staff assigned to the crucial service and our in-house staff are highly trained in the necessary skills such as installation of major earthwork supports, confined space training, avoidance of underground services and EUSR Water Hygiene.

As the Framework has been awarded on a design and construct basis, Bethell take responsibility for all preconstruction activities including ground investigation, utility service diversions, design optioneering, stakeholder liaison, ecology studies, hydraulic modelling, budget costing. We undertake full design management of Structural, Civil, Mechanical and Electrical workscopes. The CDM role of Principal Designer is also undertaken by Bethell and we are responsible for the compilation of all necessary as-built information for the Health & Safety File.
