Bethell & United Utilities to deliver sewer improvements for Cottam residents!
On behalf of our strategic client United Utilities, Bethell Group began works in March 2024 to alleviate flooding issues at Hoyles Lane in Cottam, Lancashire.
The upsizing of existing infrastructure undertaken by Bethell will aim to provide more resilience in the local wastewater network and decrease the risk of flooding for local residents.
Bethell will install a new online upsized sewer along Hoyles Lane using open-cut methods, supported by our new vacuum excavator. The works will be backfilled and reinstated in sections, moving along the road to assist residential access throughout the construction phase.
In total, approximately 4000m of existing sewers will be replaced or upgraded, including the installation of a connection to an existing trunk main south of Savick Brook, with some complex engineering associated with passing under Network Rail and Canal & Rivers Trust assets.
Alison Owen, Framework Director at Bethell Construction, commented on the milestone, saying, “We have been working on establishing our main compound off Sidgreaves Lane and commencing initial enabling works, and, despite challenging weather conditions, I’m pleased to share that the first phase of works have been completed and Sidgreaves Lane is now re-opened to the public.”
Work commenced in early March to the permanent works and is expected to be completed in late summer 2025. The sewer upgrades Bethell is delivering at Hoyles Lane were awarded under the AMP7 Capital Delivery works for United Utilities, along with the first project in Bury which commenced last year and is currently making good progress.
Keep an eye out for further posts on a growing programme of capital works, complex engineering and value-added client solutions.
